CE Program:
"Modern removable partial denture philosophy"
Michael Waliszewski, DDS, MSD
As the U.S. population continues to age, the demand for dental prosthetics is forecasted to rise. Unfortunately, the cost of implant and fixed prosthodontics is high. For this reason we should expect that the removable partial denture will continue to be the workhouse treatment for a large segment of the partially dentate population.
The purpose of this course is to investigate the principles of RPD construction which are supported by evidence. From this analysis, several clear principles of design should become apparent. Among these, the importance of managing the tooth-frame interface will be illustrated. After evaluating the consequences of mismanaging this portion of RPD treatment, several clinical solutions will be demonstrated. Highlights of the discussion will include references to key prosthodontic research articles and an introduction to modern advanced RPD construction.
Objectives:
- Understand the origin of textbook RPD principles
- Have insight towards the most applicable RPD research findings
- Learn how framework fit effects the RPD function and success
- Learn basic management procedures for the RPD tooth-frame interface
