The WDA and Delta Dental of Wisconsin are pleased to offer this continuing education program.
WHEN: Friday, June 13, 2008
WHERE: Monona Terrace, Madison
Course description
The growing epidemic of diabetes has serious implications
for dentistry and health care.
This course will describe the national and regional
changes in diabetes disease prevalence and how this is affecting both the
private and public health care systems. The latest science related to the
oral-systemic connections between diabetes and periodontal disease will be
discussed, as well as the strength of both associations and cause-and-effect
between these two conditions. The dental management of patients with diabetes
will be presented to provide a working knowledge of how health history, glucose
control and patient management can be used to control both the oral and
systemic complications of this disease.
The role of oral care in disease management has already
begun to change how dentistry is being perceived within the medical community.
Diabetes provides a unique opportunity for dentistry to take a much more
prominent role in improving the overall health of our patients.
Learning objectives
- To understand the changes occurring in diabetic disease
rates and how this will affect dental care
- To learn the strength of the association and causal
relationships between diabetes and periodontal disease
- To understand the biologic basis behind this relationship
- To learn how to best manage patients with diabetes within
a dental practice
- To see how dentistry can play an important role in the
