Wisconsin State Dental Society tackles early dental licensure
2005 marks the 135th anniversary of the WDA. After the birth of the WDA, known originally as the Wisconsin State Dental Society in 1870, Wisconsin experienced another period of growth. The state’s population doubled to over two million between 1870 and 1900. Dentistry continued its scientific, technological and organizational advance and became a more alluring career prospect. The first laws regulating dentistry also went into effect during this time.
From MMC to Marquette: The evolution of dental education in Wisconsin
Did you know Marquette University School of Dentistry was not the first dental school in Wisconsin? The first dental school in Wisconsin was a division of the Milwaukee Medical College, which was built in 1883 to address the need for medical and dental education in Wisconsin.
The AWDA legacy: 65 years of service
They started Legislative Day and the Smile Contest, raised more than $40,000 for the Wisconsin Dental Foundation and played key roles in Wisconsin legislation. The Auxiliary/Alliance of the Wisconsin Dental Association has an impressive resume that spans 65 years of loyalty and service to Wisconsin dentists and their profession.
