The AWDA legacy: 65 years of service They started Legislative Day and the Smile Contest, raised more than $40,000 for the Wisconsin Dental Foundation and played key roles in Wisconsin legislation. Wisconsin State Dental Society forms in late 1800s to combat fraudulent dentistry As the WDA celebrates its 135th anniversary, we look back on how organized dentistry came to Wisconsin. Overall, organized dentistry was a byproduct of the growth that marked the 19th century. From MMC to Marquette: The evolution of dental education in Wisconsin Did you know Marquette University School of Dentistry was not the first dental school in Wisconsin? The first dental school in Wisconsin was a division of the Milwaukee Medical College, which was built in 1883 to address the need for medical and dental education in Wisconsin. WDAIP growth rooted in client service, industry and technology advances WDA Insurance Programs, Inc. (WDAIP), the brainchild of several WDA dentists, began in 1982 as a means of offering members malpractice, life, health and disability insurance coverage. Wisconsin State Dental Society tackles early dental licensure 2005 marks the 135th anniversary of the WDA. After the birth of the WDA, known originally as the Wisconsin State Dental Society in 1870, Wisconsin experienced another period of growth. The state’s population doubled to over two million between 1870 and 1900. Dentistry continued its scientific, technological and organizational advance and became a more alluring career prospect.
