  • Northeast Region 2 – Dr. Jeff Kraig – Eligible for re-election; three-year term available
  • Greater Milwaukee Region 3 - Dr. Paul Levine – Completing second term, thus ineligible for re-election; three-year term available
  • Southeast Region 4 – Dr. Barrett Straub – Eligible for re-election; three-year term available
  • Southwest Region 5 – Dr. Stan Brysh – Eligible for re-election; three-year term available

The board is the managing body of the association. It is responsible for conducting all WDA business as outlined in the organization’s bylaws and as directed through House policy decisions. The board also establishes interim policies essential to the management of the association or of an emergency nature between annual House meetings.

The board has three in-person meetings a year: winter, early summer and fall. Attendance at the WDA House is also required. Much of the business needing board review and comment between those four formal meetings is handled via e-mail and occasionally by conference call.

How to nominate

To nominate a colleague or yourself for one of the available seats on the Board of Trustees noted above, submit a candidate headshot photo (digital preferred) and curriculum vitae to Lisa Chandre in the WDA Executive Office at lchandre@wda.org or 414-755-4105 (FAX) by April 1, 2012.

Photos and biographical info for all trustee candidates will appear in the Executive Director’s Update and WDA Journal and on WDA.org.

Election process

Voting will take place in all regions during early August. In contested elections, paper ballots will be mailed to all regional members. Electronic balloting will be used when there is only one declared candidate.

All candidates will be notified of election results by the end of August 2012. General membership will be informed of election results through journal and EDU articles and a posting on WDA.org.

Trustee-elects will be invited to attend the fall Board of Trustees meeting (Sept. 21 - 22 in Milwaukee) as observers and officially installed at the 2012 House of Delegates meeting Nov. 16 – 17 at the Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee.

The board includes three elected representatives from each region (northwest, northeast, greater Milwaukee, southeast and southwest) and one third-year Marquette University School of Dentistry student.

Officers

Dentists committed to helping lead organized dentistry are wanted as candidates for the positions of Wisconsin Dental Association president-elect, vice president and speaker of the House of Delegates.

Individuals may nominate colleagues or themselves. Please submit candidates’ names by June 4, 2012 to a member of the Nominating Committee (see below). This committee will meet via a noon conference call on June 6 and then present its slate of candidates to the WDA House of Delegates on Nov. 17, 2012 in Milwaukee. Nominations will also be accepted from the House floor at that time.

Nominees’ digital headshots and curriculum vitae should be sent to Lisa Chandre in the WDA Executive Office at lchandre@wda.org or FAX 414-755-4105 for publication in the October WDA Journal.

President-elect and vice president

The president-elect serves for one year before automatically advancing to the presidency. Duties include hosting Legislative Day and working with WDA staff and the Michigan Dental Association delegation chair to coordinate caucus meetings for the American Dental Association’s 9th District.

The vice president also serves for one year.

The president, president-elect and vice president work closely together to represent the dental profession in meetings with government officials and state legislators. These three officers support one another in serving as WDA spokespersons with the media and other organizations.

They also divide up component visits based on geographic proximity and scheduling needs.

Speaker of the House

Working with staff, the speaker sets the WDA House of Delegates’ agenda. He or she presides over all House meetings, performing duties according to parliamentary procedure. Prior to the House, the speaker meets with and briefs the Reference Committee chair. He or she also serves as an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees.

The Speaker of the House is elected for a one-year term that can be renewed indefinitely.

How to nominate

Individuals may nominate colleagues or themselves by submitting candidates’ names by June 4, 2012 to the Nominating Committee:
