The Wisconsin Dentistry Examining Board has decided that dentists who pass a clinical competence examination on or after Jan. 1, 2009 in any region of the country will be eligible for a license to practice dentistry in Wisconsin. This removes a major barrier to becoming a licensed dentist in Wisconsin.

Congress passes legislation to exempt dental practices from Red Flags Rule
The U.S. Senate and House of Representatives passed identical legislation bills exempting certain businesses, including dental practices, from the Federal Trade Commission’s Red Flags Rule.

The University of Wisconsin's Center for Tobacco Research & Intervention provide short video clips for dentists and dental hygienists about how to counsel patients about tobacco cessation.

EPA announces intent to regulate dental mercury waste
On Sept. 27, 2010, the Environmental Protection Agency announced plans to initiate an effluent guideline rulemaking procedure to reduce mercury waste from dental facilities. The EPA said it expects to issue a draft proposal next year that would take effect in 2012.
