Germantown practice hosts open house

Dental Professionals in Germantown was looking for a fun way to show existing and prospective patients their newly expanded office and to introduce its new pediatric dentist.

What better way to do so than by hosting an open house! Hundreds of loyal patients and community members were welcomed on May 9. The open house required a great deal of preparation, from coordinating activities to designing promotional materials and
turning the office and parking lot into entertainment venues.

Ultimately, all efforts paid off when several attendees sought more information in the days after the open house. To date, at least 12 new patients have scheduled appointments. Debbie Anderson, who has worked at Dental Professionals for more than 20 years, lead the open house planning with assistance from Dr. Cynthia Jakusz and
Jamie Dano.

“Our main goal was to thank the community and surrounding areas for their continued support during the past 30 plus years. They have helped to make us who we are. Since this area is growing, we also wanted to introduce ourselves and show off the expanded practice. What better way to do this than with a combined thank you party and welcome party,” Dr. Keith Templin said.

Staff got involved by contributing to the different department raffle baskets and helping with setup, giving office tours, assisting with activities, serving food and cleaning up.
Nearly 400 hot dogs and over 32 pounds of popcorn were handed out.

The Germantown High School Jazz Band played for guests and a rock wall was available for those up for the challenge. Children had the chance to interact with clowns and Disney® princesses Elsa and Anna from “Frozen”, as well as get their faces painted.

Dr. Chad Zambon said the practice, which was founded in 1983 by Dr. Tom Albiero, acquired more square footage from the Village Plaza, and was so grateful to be able to expand in the practice’s current location.

“We now have eight hygiene operatories and nine doctor operatories. By building on and increasing our size, we can better serve our patients with more appointment opportunities,” he said. With more space, Dental Professionals’ is growing its pediatric specialty department– DP Kids and welcomed Dr. Kyle Menne, who completed his pediatric residency training at The Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

Tips for hosting events

  • Identify your audience Determining the target audience for your open house should be your first priority. Consider the purpose of your open house, and tailor the guest list to fit what you’re promoting. Include local leaders and community groups on your list of invitees to introduce your practice. Your practice may benefit from impressing involved community figures and their word-of-mouth promotions,
    as well as local families.
  • Create a budget Each facet of an open house, whether it be postage, food, advertising or giveaway items, carries a cost to your practice. You may also need to budget to pay staff for extra hours.
  • Choose the date and time Every open house should offer guests a window of time to drop in and visit. A two to three-hour window enables patients and other guests to visit your office at their leisure. Weekends and early evenings after normal business hours are good times to choose for an open house, because fewer people will have work conflicts. Take the weather into consideration
    when choosing a date.
  • Advertise To get people through the door, you must advertise effectively. Ads can be designed as flyers or placed in local newspapers. Post signs in your office to draw patients’ interest. Let them know they are welcome to bring family and friends. Clearly outline the reasons for giving the open house and the benefits of attending, such as giveaways, activities and food. Submit a simple press release to the local, community newspaper. Don’t forget the power of social media when promoting and use Facebook and Twitter to get the word out.
  • Get ready, get set … go! A few days before the event, prepare your staff for their functions and roles. Every team member should know how they will assist and
    how to answer common questions about your practice. Once the event commences, mingle with the guests. Take a few moments shortly after your open house begins to introduce yourself and your staff, describe your practice and thank everyone for attending.

Remember to take plenty of photos at the event to post on your practice website and social media channels. Submit photos and a letter to the editor to the local newspaper and thank any community organizations for attending or donating.
