Community water fluoridation is safe, effective and economical, providing substantial oral health benefits to approximately 90 percent of children and adults on public water systems in Wisconsin. Fluoride activity (for and against) has increased significantly over the past few years.
Effective Feb. 1, 2013, Wisconsin’s optimal level of fluoride is 0.7 mg/L. Established by the state’s Oral Health Program in Department of Health Services and the Public Water Supply Section in Department of Natural Resources it brings Wisconsin in line with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ proposed change.
Own Your Smile is a three-year (2014 – 2016) strategic, oral health literacy and public awareness campaign. It uses traditional and non-traditional communications tools to motivate Wisconsin adults to make good oral health a priority and to seek affordable, preventive care in WDA member dentists’ practices.
