FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dr. Steven Stoll, a general dentist in Neenah and president of the Wisconsin Dental Association, today released the following statement in response to the most recent report from the Pew Children’s Dental Campaign titled, “A Costly Dental Destination – Hospital Care Means States Pay Dearly”.
“The Pew Foundation report underscores a growing problem in America and our state – citizens do not have access to the dental care they need to stay healthy. While the Pew report does not include numbers specific to Wisconsin, it does show there is a problem that needs to be addressed. Dentists in Wisconsin already provide on an annual basis millions and millions of dollars in charitable care. However, it is clear that charitable care and visits to a hospital emergency room aren’t the solution to this problem, and Wisconsin needs to implement policies that remove barriers to dental care.
“Policymakers need to heed this report and take action. We at the Wisconsin Dental Association stand ready to assist in any way that we can.”
