May 4 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm$80
Dr. Kenneth Waliszewski received his D.D.S in 1971 and master’s degree in prosthodontics in 1974, both from Marquette University School of Dentistry. After graduation, he joined the Navy Dental Corps, serving as regional staff prosthodontist and head of the Division of Fixed Prosthodontics in San Diego. He then returned to Milwaukee and Marquette to establish his practice and teach part time. He held several positions in the dental and graduate prosthodontics areas and, after the School of Dentistry moved into its new building in 2002, became involved with informatics as well. Ken has been active in several dental organizations and received many awards, including the International College of Dentists’ service award, Marquette’s Part-Time Faculty Excellence in Teaching award and the School of Dentistry’s Outstanding Dental Service Award.
A TMD stands for Temporomandibular Dysfunction. In recent years academics, authors and researchers prefer to have TMD stand for Temporomandibular DISORDERS. This is a significant development because it recognizes that a dysfunctional jaw can have distinctive types of pathology. Recognizing different types of dysfunction provides the clinician with the opportunity to fine tune treatment to the focused problem. The speaker will define and describe each type of TMD. This makes the clinician’s diagnosis and leads to tailored treatment.
At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:
Review base line qualities of a ‘normally’ functioning jaw
Identify the TYPES of dysfunction grouped under the big picture diagnosis of TMD
Discuss basic appliance therapy (splint therapy); used for the statistically most common condition
