Orofacial Pain Management for the Dental Practice - Livestream

This course focuses on evidence-based diagnosis, and non-surgical management of various non-odontogenic causes of head and neck pain commonly encountered in clinical dentistry which includes temporomandibular disorders (TMD), neuralgias, and neuropathies among others. The course will also discuss the overlap between TMD and obstructive sleep apnea which has gained traction outside of mainstream dentistry with a focus on consensus and evidence-based modalities in managing obstructive sleep apnea. The course will also consist of clinical cases to invite audience participation.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Create a differential diagnosis for non-dental causes of pain in the head and neck region
  • Elaborate non-surgical management modalities and referral recommendations when managing patients with orofacial pain 
  • Deconstruct the popular overlap of temporomandibular disorders and obstructive sleep apnea
  • Discuss consensus and research based guidelines established by the professional and academic organizations like the American Dental Association in management of obstructive sleep apnea
  • Evaluate why literature does not support specific trendy treatments in management of obstructive sleep apnea in dentistry
