    FAQs

How does the WDA Dental Savings Club work?

It’s an easy process for both dentists and patients. Consumers pay an annual membership fee to join – an individual membership is $48/year, a family membership is $108/year and there are also options for employers and associations to offer it to employees and members at $40/year. Club members have access to savings on dental services through participating dentists. Dentists join by completing the network agreement, acknowledging they will treat patients who are Club members at the fees in the agreed-upon fee schedules for general dentists and specialists.

Does a dentist have to belong to the WDA to be a Club provider?

Yes. This is a membership benefit exclusively for WDA dentists and their patients. If you are interested in joining the WDA, visit WDA.org, email membership@wda.org or call 414-755-4118.

Can I be part of the Club if I also accept one or more types of dental insurance?

Yes. The WDA Dental Savings Club is designed to help uninsured or underinsured patients access the dental care they need.

What is the WDA doing to encourage consumers to join the Club?

We have a multifaceted consumer marketing program – including employer outreach – set to launch in early July, once we’ve established a solid network of dentists to start serving patients. Our program includes high-profile advertising on Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers TV and radio, plus a variety of digital media, social media and other outlets. We will be marketing to over 1 million potential Club members throughout the state of Wisconsin.

Will there be promotional materials for participating dentists to use with patients?

Our consumer marketing plan includes promotional materials for dental offices, including printed materials, videos, digital content and more. Marketing materials will be provided free of charge to dental offices that want them.

How can I sign up to be part of the WDA Savings Club network?

Joining the network is easy. Visit WDA.org/dental-savings-club and take just three simple steps.

    1. Check out the fee schedules for general dentists and specialists.
    2. Sign the access agreement.
    3. Register in the provider portal (you’ll receive a link when you sign the network agreement).

The process takes less than 15 minutes. If you’d rather sign up with a person, call Daniel Dee at  262-834-4108.

What benefits exist for dentists who participate in the WDA Dental Savings Club?

In addition to freedom from insurance hassles and red tape, Club network dentists will see:

    • Higher fee schedules, updated yearly. WDA dentists tell us that our fee schedules are significantly higher than what they see from the vast majority of dental insurance carriers. And – unlike insurance companies – we update our fee schedules every year based on Fair Health Organization data. Review our fee schedules for general dentists and specialists.
    • New patients. As soon as we’ve built a solid provider network, we will promote the WDA Dental Savings plan to consumers across Wisconsin. All participating dentists will be included in our in-app directory for patients looking for care.
    • Faster payments. Patients pay in full, in-office, the day of care, or within 48 hours if they select a payment plan.
    • Best-in-class technology to make your team’s life easier: Simply enter the dental codes for the patient’s care in the WDA provider portal, instantly review your patient’s bill, present the bill to the patient and accept full payment before they leave the office!
    • Personalized support: You’ll be assigned an expert from our dental concierge team – a real person who will be your personal contact – to help with any questions or issues.
    • NO RISK GUARANTEE. You can terminate the agreement at any time.

The DSC is exclusively for WDA member dentists and their patients. We’ve eliminated the unnecessary administrative hassles and costs so you can do what you do best – provide care.

How long will it take to see payment from Club members?

Patients will pay 100% in full, in office, on the same day you provide treatment – no need to deal with installment billing, partial payments or collections. (If you choose to offer the patient your in-house payment plan, you’ll receive payment according to the terms of your plan.)

How does billing work for a Dental Savings Club patient?

Our best-in-class technology makes billing (and collecting payment) easy. Simply enter the dental codes for the patient’s care in the WDA provider portal, instantly review your patient’s bill, present the bill to the patient and accept full payment before they leave the office! Visit WDA.org/dental-savings-club for a video walking you through the process in detail.

Exactly how does the Dental Savings Club provider portal work for a dental office?

We have a video tutorial available at WDA.org/dental-savings-club. You’ll see the provider portal is very simple and easy to use.

What if my billed rate for a certain procedure is actually lower than the DSC fee schedule?

That can happen. Our fees are based on Fair Health Organization data. If your price for a billing code is lower than the DSC fee schedule, our technology will instantly recognize that, bill the patient at the lower price and indicate they received 0 savings on that item. You’ll receive your full fee, and the patient will get the lowest price available. The same holds true for services you may not bill for at all – for example, some dental offices have told us they do not charge for oral hygiene education. You enter the code and $0 for the billed rate. Our technology will recognize that you do not charge for the service and the patient will be billed $0 for that line item.

I want to be part of the Dental Savings Club and I’m comfortable with the fee schedule, but I don’t want to commit to honoring all of the limited-time offers or specials. Can I still join the network?

Yes. Providers have the choice to opt-out of the specials and limited-time offers. To opt-out of the special dental care bundles; the dental practice should email daniel.dee@wdaclub.com, with Special Dental Care Bundles Opt-out in the subject line, and the dental practice (company) name and locations in the body of the email.

Is the dental office responsible for merchant or processing fees with credit card payments?

Similar to credit card companies, payment processing companies (in this case, STRIPE) charge a fee for each time they assist in processing a payment from a customer. Customers appreciate the ease and convenience of making a payments via apps and online. The payment processing fee covers the infrastructure, time and risk involved in processing payments simply and securely. STRIPE, respected worldwide as one the most secure and safe payment processing companies, offers a highly competitive processing fee of 2.9% + .30 for each payment. This is similar to most major credit card payment processing and service fees. For example, if a patient had a $1,000 bill and paid the dental practice online via STRIPE, the dental practice would receive $970.70.

The WDA Dental Savings Club allows dental practices to accept payment and patients to pay in cash, by check, credit card and debit card. If your office has an in-house payment plan, you may also offer it to Club patients who qualify. In order to get the savings from membership, patients need to pay their bill in-full, in-office after their appointment via one of these payment methods, or enter into a payment plan with your office.

My practice offers a patient financing plan (through CareCredit or another vendor). Can a Dental Savings Club member patient use our office plan for financing?

Club members who qualify for your office financing plan can absolutely use it to cover services rendered. You are free to work with the patient to determine whether the plan will work for them.

Why should the WDA Dental Savings Club be offered instead of an in-office dental membership plan?

It’s not an either/or proposition. If a dental practice offers an in-office dental membership plan, it can also join the WDA Dental Savings Club network and provide dental care to WDA Club members. An in-office dental membership plan and the WDA Dental Savings Club are both good options for consumers to get more affordable dental care, and consumers like having options.

An in-office membership plan and the WDA Dental Savings Club are similar in some ways and different in others. Both offer savings, and therefore a more affordable way for some people to get needed dental care. However in-office memberships often cost $25 to $40 per month per member ($300 to $480 annually) and members receive a list of dental services included only by that dental practice. The WDA Dental Savings Club costs $48 annually, and provides access to a much broader range of dental care services with significant savings from a network of participating dentists, including specialists. Additionally, the WDA Dental Savings Club has a very compelling payment plan option with patient approval of nearly 80% for members needing a more affordable way to pay for their dental care.

The WDA Dental Savings Club will be promoted to consumers statewide, so more Wisconsinites (especially the 2.2 million who did not go to the dentist last year) are aware of the option to afford the dental care they need and want.

Is the WDA Dental Savings Club dental insurance?

This is not dental insurance; it’s a modern dental savings club that helps the uninsured or underinsured access more transparent, convenient and affordable oral health care. Patients pay one low yearly membership cost and in return, get access to savings on dental services from participating dentists. There is no deductible, no coinsurance, no annual coverage maximum and no reimbursement. Patients pay DSC prices for all services received out of pocket, in the office, immediately after treatment. If the patient chooses a payment plan, the dental office is paid in full within 48 hours – you don’t have to deal installment payment schedules or collections issues.

Anyone involved in the WDA Dental Savings Club will quickly see it’s not insurance – no pre-authorizations, no claim denials, no clearinghouse fees, no low reimbursements, no slow collections and no time-consuming administrative hassles. It’s easy for patients and easy for dentists, who will see higher fees, faster payment, more patients and greater case acceptance from Club members.

How do the Club’s discounted fees compare to dental insurance reimbursements?

Insurance fee schedules vary among carriers, and we regularly hear from dentists who are frustrated that some carriers even have different fee schedules for different providers. WDA dentists tell us that our fee schedules – which are consistent for all network providers – are significantly higher than what they see from the vast majority of dental insurance carriers. Also, unlike insurance companies, we update our fee schedules every year based on Fair Health Organization data.

What types of dental services does the WDA Dental Savings Club cover?

Unlike insurance, which doesn’t typically cover elective or cosmetic procedures, the WDA Dental Savings Club offers savings to member patients on virtually all dental treatments, including treatment from specialists. Check out our fee schedules for general dentists and specialists.

Are there limits to the Dental Savings Club benefits a patient can use in a year?

No. Unlike insurance plans, which cap what they’ll reimburse for dental care in a year, the WDA Dental Savings Club has no annual limit. Patients who belong to the Club can get all of the dental services they need with savings from the agreed-upon fee schedule all year long.

Are patients reimbursed for what they pay out of pocket?

This is not an insurance or reimbursement program – it’s a savings club. Patients join the Club for access to special pricing on dental services from participating dentists. Patients pay their bill, in full, in office the day of treatment. For those who choose a payment plan, the dental office is paid in full within 48 hours.

Can patients with dental insurance use WDA Dental Savings Club discounts?

While a patient can have both a dental savings plan and dental insurance, they cannot use both for the same procedure. Depending on what your contract with their dental carrier allows, you can let them use WDA Dental Savings Plan discounts to reduce out-of-pocket costs on new services (not completed treatments or treatments in progress) once they’ve reached their maximum insurance limit for the year.

What if I have problems or questions when I’m working with Dental Savings Club patients?

Our goal is a smooth, successful and easy experience for both dentists and patients. You’ll be assigned an expert from our dental concierge team – a real person who will be your personal contact – to help with any questions or issues.

What if I change my mind and want to leave the network?

We hope that doesn’t happen, but if it does, we understand. You can terminate your network agreement at any time, no questions asked.

How does this program benefit the Wisconsin Dental Association?

From a financial perspective, the WDA receives a small percentage of the membership fee consumers pay to join the Club. In the program’s early stages, that revenue will be used to market the Club to consumers throughout the state and cover other program-related expenses. Eventually, the intention is for that money to flow back to the WDA as an important source of non-dues revenue to fund other member programming. The WDA and WDAISC adopted a similar plan when we introduced the MedPro Professional Liability Insurance benefit in 2016; that program has since become an extremely successful revenue source for the WDA and its members.

Looking at it more broadly, the WDA Dental Savings Club is a way to further support our advocacy for dental insurance reform in Wisconsin. We hear daily from dentists who are frustrated with low reimbursements and insurance hassles. This is an option for our members to care for patients with fair pricing updated annually to reflect inflation, easy-to-use technology and a program that prioritizes dentists, their patients and quality oral health care, not insurance company profits.

The Dental Savings Club also supports the WDA’s mission to advance the interests of WDA members and the dental profession by promoting professional excellence and quality oral health care for the public.

Who is WDA working with for this effort?

The WDA and WDAISC vetted project partners and program ideas for a number of years before decided on building a Dental Savings Club. The WDA and WDAISC have selected Moonlight Graham of Wisconsin, LLC to consult, administer and manage the WDA Dental Savings Club.
