Dental photography is an essential component of modern clinical practice, supporting accurate documentation, diagnosis, treatment planning, communication, and esthetic evaluation. This hands-on course introduces participants to the fundamental principles and practical techniques needed to produce standardized, high-quality clinical images. Emphasis is placed on understanding equipment options, camera settings, lighting strategies, and the use of mirrors and retractors to achieve consistent intraoral and extraoral photographs.

Through guided instruction and practical exercises, participants will learn how to capture images that adhere to professional documentation standards and effectively support clinical decision-making. The course also highlights how high-quality photography enhances case presentations, facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration, and improves patient education and engagement. By the end of the session, attendees will be able to confidently produce clear, accurate, and esthetically appropriate photographic records for everyday clinical use.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate correct use of DSLR cameras by capturing standardized intraoral and extraoral photographs that meet professional documentation standards

  • Apply appropriate lighting, angulation, and retractor/mirror techniques to produce high-quality clinical images suitable for diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient communication

  • Evaluate and select photographic images based on clarity, accuracy, and esthetic presentation for use in digital records, case presentations, and publications
